Solubag revolutionizes the fight against plastic
Each year the world produces more than 380 million tones of plastic, and of these, an alarming 50% are one-use plastics: bags, packaging, bottles… All these products are design to be used only one time, end most of the time in landfills or, even worse, our oceans. THis is one of the main reasons for why plastics need centuries to degrade, causing an irreversible damage against marine fauna and all the ecosystem.
Against this problem, a group of chilean visionaries have decided to take action, searching a solution that could slow down this destructive cycle. As such Solubag was born, an innovative technology that has step forward against plastic contamination: bags that are 100% biodegradable and water soluble.
At first glance, Solubag’s soluble products might seem as conventional plastic bags. But what really differentiates them is their unique capacity of disolving in water. These bags made of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), makes this bags be able to completely dissolve when they are in contact with warm water, leaving behind clean water, free of contamintants.
What makes Solubag so special?
1. No contamination
Unlike traditonal plastics, Solubag does not release neither microplastics nor toxic chemicals to the environment. This ecological material offers a direct solution to the microplastics problem, which each years flood our oceans and affect the water life. When dissolved, it does not leave dangerous waste that could endanger the health of our ecosystems.
2. Fast biodegradation
In case the bag does not disolve in water, do not worry: Solubag biodegrades naturally much faster than conventional plastics. This process greatly contributes to reducing plastic waste that these days suffocates our landfills and natural landscapes.
3. Save for the environment
The PVA material used in the fabrication of Solubag’s soluble products is so secure that you could drink the resulting water after its dissolution (although, of course, we do not recommend it). This guarantees that there is not residual contamination that might affect neither the wildlife nor the soil which makes this a secure and responsible option.
